Background Life
The word Anasazi comes from the Navajo language and it means "enemy ancesto or the ancestors of our enemies." The history of the Anasazi starts with the archaic indians, who were nomadic hunter-gatherers, which took place over 2,000 years ago. They eventually transformed into the basket maker culture which used pit houses during the time period of 300 - 700 A.D. The Anasazi civilization cliff houses, kivas, and great cities lasted from about 700 A.D. - 1300 A.D. , which it must have disappeared after that time period. Archaeologists think that the Anasazi civilization eventually traveled from their cliff houses to the Rio Grande Valley , where they became today's Pueblo. The Navajo are thought to be recent immagrants from the North.
